Albany YMCA to close; South End Options Limited

The Capital District YMCA posted a letter to its members in its North Albany branch on Wednesday announcing that in light of the sale of its building to the Albany School District for use as a new middle school, it would be pursuing “a new multi-faceted approach to enhance services to serve more children in Albany.” That will include South End programming with community partners, and the exploration of a “new health and wellness center in the middle of the city.” Staff have been told closing at North Albany will be in late August. Mention has been made of swimmers using school district pools. The wording of the release was very vague according to all who have read it.
