<h4>South  End Earth Day is an event for the South End neighborhood in Albany to  get together to clean up our neighborhood, turn our vacant lots into  community spaces, plant trees, flower and vegetables&#8217; learn about  nutrition, eat food and hear great music by community members.  It is organized by members of AVillage, Inc., the South End  Neighborhood Association, the Radix Center and Grand St. Community Arts  and sponsored by Waste Management.</h4>
<h4>Last year was a great  success and we hope to pick up where we left off, improving on the work  we did last year and showing off new projects including the plan for a  Catherine St. Family Park.</h4>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hip-Hop culture can be liberating, motivating and positive energy in a young persons life. The purpose of this class is to cultivate talented youth into productive adults through the arts. We use Hip-Hop to help these young people:<br />
1. Identify themselves in a positive light<br />
2. See a bigger world<br />
3. Develop a life plan for themselves</p>
<p>&#8230;This is a selective class. A casting call will be held to select students based on their lyrical ability, presentation and ability to make it all scheduled events. The casting call will be open to all boys and girls ages 10-17. We are looking to have students represent various Capital Region Cities: Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Rensselaer, Watervliet, Colonie, Latham, Amsterdam, etc.</p>
<p>*All Students Must be accompanied by a Legal Guardian to the casting call.</p>
<p>The Casting Call: $5 Donation<br />
Fri July 1st &#8211; 6-9pm<br />
Sat July 2nd 10am-1pm</p>
<p>Orientation/Rehearsal : Wed July 6th, 2011<br />
6-7pm &#8211; Ages 10-14<br />
7-8pm – Ages 14-17</p>
<p>Classes will meet Every Monday Night July 11th – August 29th from 6-9pm:<br />
6-7:30pm &#8211; Ages 10-14<br />
7:30-9pm – Ages 14-17</p>
<p>About the Class:<br />
-Each class will be video taped and aired on Public Access TV.<br />
-Students will follow our 8 week curriculum and may be quizzed at the end of each class. Quizzes may include written, multiple choice, audio, visual or multi-media elements.<br />
-Instructors will challenge students to improve their lyrical skills and their content.<br />
-Each student will be asked to perform a weekly review to increase their critical thinking<br />
-Each student will write and perform a verse each week (NO CURSING).<br />
-Students are allowed to 2 absences. 3 absences disqualifies you from top ratings.<br />
-Verses will be recorded, published and voted on by the general public.<br />
-The Top Students at the end of the class will get to produce a &#8216;Stop the Violence&#8217; Single with some of the areas Top Producers and Studios. This includes a Music Video and various other promotions (Print, Internet, etc).<br />
-All graduating students will be featured on another &#8216;Stop the Violence&#8217; Compilation to be Distributed and Promoted by Hollywood Hustle.</p>

Week 1: Mon. Jul 11th – The History of Hip-Hop<br />

Week 4: Mon. Aug 1st – Vocabulary<br />
Week 5: Mon. Aug 8th – Metaphors &#038; Euphemisms<br />
Week 6: Mon. Aug 15th – The Art of Storytelling<br />
Week 7: Mon. Aug 22nd – The Battle Rap<br />
Week 8: Mon. Aug 29th – The Grades and Awarding of Prizes<br />
Week 9: Mon. Sep 5th – The Recording of the &#8216;Stop the Violence&#8217; Compilation &#8211; in Studio</p>
