The South End of Albany, 61 Elizabeth St.

South End Earth Day is an event for the South End neighborhood in Albany to get together to clean up our neighborhood, turn our vacant lots into community spaces, plant trees, flower and vegetables’ learn about nutrition, eat food and hear great music by community members. It is organized by members of AVillage, Inc., the South End Neighborhood Association, the Radix Center and Grand St. Community Arts and sponsored by Waste Management.

Last year was a great success and we hope to pick up where we left off, improving on the work we did last year and showing off new projects including the plan for a Catherine St. Family Park.

Here is the day’s itinerary:

12 – Kickoff

12:30 – Work on lot projects

3 – Walk around clean-up

4 – Community Dinner

5 – Music

Youth Organics Garden Shares now available

Garden Shares

Interested in buying locally grown, fresh food? Buy a Garden Share with Youth Organics!

Now available for 2012!

Cost: $130 for the Summer-Fall season (Approximately Mid-June to Late-October)
Pick Up: Every Thursday from 5 PM – 7 PM, pick up you share at the Youth Organics Garden.

By purchasing a Garden Share, you are investing in the success of our program. The money is used to pay the teen stipends for our spring program and to buy garden supplies to get us up and running for the season.

Drawing and Illustration Class on Saturdays!

Our Drawing and Illustration Class now happen at Trinity Alliance (15 Trinity Pl) every Saturday from 11AM-2PM. Classes are FREE. Please make sure you bring your own pencils! If you have any questions, feel free to call the office at (518) 463-2222.

Annual Meeting Saturday, November 19th, from 2-4PM @ the Howe Library

Our Annual Meeting is Saturday, November 19th from 2-4PM at the Howe Library in the large meeting room downstairs. Everyone is welcome and we hope you can make it!

This is a great opportunity to meet the whole GSCA Team and see if there is a way you would like to be involved as well, either as a volunteer, a program aide, or even a board member.

GSCA at Craft Beer Festival in the Armory

Drawing & Illustration Class

GSCA’s Drawing & Illustration Class, taught by Malik Huggins and Alec Acevedo, has moved!
Classes are on Saturdays from 11AM – 2PM, at Trinity Alliance, 15 Trinity Pl.

Classes are FREE.

Please bring your own pencils and drawing materials.

Malik Huggins graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked as a merchandise stylist in Manhattan for thirteen years. Besides fashion illustrations he specializes in drawing portraits and the human form.

Old School Dance Party

The Divas for Christ are taking over GSCA to throw an awesome dance party fundraiser. Admission is $5, and refreshments will be available. The money will help the Divas get their non-profit status prepared and filed.

What: Divas for Christ “Old School Dance Party”

When: This Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 PM to 1 AM @ GSCA

Please remember to bring your comfortable shoes, because you will be dancing like a rock star! Karaoke can be expected, and one of the co-founders, Sandra McKinley, will be celebrating her birthday.

Colors for the night are black and silver, feel free to dress accordingly.

Circus Yoga

CircusYoga is coming to Grand Street Community Arts on Sunday, October 9, from 1-4 PM

CircusYoga is an imaginative, fun-filled and safe workout designed to strengthen bodies while building creativity, self-confidence, focus, trust, teamwork. The classes in this series will include basic Hatha yoga poses taught through a unique story-like structure,contact/partner yoga, creative movement, juggling 101, skill toys, clowning and partner acrobatics. Our final CircusYoga class in this session will be an open presentation for families and others who wish to join in the fun and celebrate with us.
